FULafia’s Rising Star, Dr. Akanmidu, Appointed University Librarian at Kontagor
— Another feather in the cap for FULafia as one of its own takes on a pioneering role at Nigeria’s newest university
In a remarkable academic elevation, Dr. Olumide Johnson Akanmidu, the Deputy University Librarian at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has been appointed the Pioneer University Librarian of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora in Niger State.
The appointment, announced in a statement signed by the University’s Registrar and dated June 23, 2025, is for a single, non-renewable term of five years.
Dr. Akanmidu, who was recently promoted to Associate Professor at FULafia, presented his letter of appointment to FULafia’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Rahman, and formally notified him of his new role. He expressed deep gratitude to the VC, describing him as a “transparent, honest, and visionary leader.”
“FULAFIA can only get better under the leadership of this seasoned, sophisticated and proactive vice-chancellor who, in one year, has done what seems like four years’ worth of transformation,” Akanmidu noted.
The vice-chancellor, in his response, thanked the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, for recognizing Akanmidu’s excellence and assured that the university community was proud of his achievement.
“We pray for your success in this new assignment, and urge you to carry into Kontagora the same hardwork, commitment, and excellence that defined your time at FULafia,” Abdul Rahman said.
