YAURI, KEBBI STATE — A pall of sorrow has fallen over the student community of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), following a tragic road accident near Yauri, Kebbi State, that claimed the life of a driver and left 13 students with various degrees of injuries. The students were reportedly returning to Sokoto from Ilorin, Kwara State, when their vehicle was involved in the fatal crash.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports indicate that the driver tragically died instantly at the scene of the accident. The 13 students, however, sustained injuries, prompting immediate medical attention. Out of the group, eight students suffered bone fractures, while the remaining five are currently receiving critical treatment at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.

In a swift and commendable response, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has demonstrated unwavering support for the affected students. Recognizing the urgency of their medical needs, the Governor has ordered the immediate release of a substantial sum of ₦5,250,000.00 to cover all treatment costs for the 13 students, all of whom are reportedly of Kwara State origin.

According to a statement released by Wasiu Onidugbe, the Special Assistant on Students Affairs, the allocated funds are comprehensive, designed to cover “the cost of tests, scans, and other procedures and treatments already itemized by the hospital for their quick recovery.” This decisive action by the Kwara State Government offers a beacon of hope and relief to the students and their families during this challenging time.
