OAU Students Union 2025 Election – Itabi, Comrade Ola, HADO, and Others Secure Wins Across 14 Faculties
The eagerly awaited Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union election for the 2025 session has concluded, with results now available from all 14 faculties on campus. Over 8,500 students participated in this year’s democratic process, proudly labeled with the hashtag #GreatIfeDecides25.
In the Presidential race, Itabi emerged victorious with a total of 4,036 votes, outpacing his nearest rival, Akilapa, who received 2,739 votes, and Oba, who trailed behind with 1,752 votes. The campus buzzed with a mix of excitement and contemplation as students gathered to celebrate this outcome.
The Vice President position was won by Iyanuoluwa, who achieved a remarkable 5,781 votes, defeating Omotola, who garnered 2,688 votes. Oyindamola, a Faculty of Education student, shared, “Iyanuoluwa’s victory symbolizes a commitment to inclusiveness. She engages students on pressing issues effectively.”For the position of Secretary General, Opeyemi triumphed with 5,409 votes while Janvi received 2,961.
Comrade Ola claimed the Assistant Secretary General role with an impressive 7,214 votes, significantly ahead of Admiral, who received 1,110 votes. Responses from various polling units praised his dedication to student activism and effective communication. In the Public Relations Officer category, Wa a là won with 4,190 votes, with competitors Longman and Alafe polling 2,670 and 1,550 votes, respectively. Students characterized this win as a testament to charisma and clarity. A Law student mentioned, “Wa a là built strong connections with students, both online and offline.”
Fact secured the Financial Secretary position with 4,903 votes, defeating Abdol, who earned 3,293 votes. Discussions during debates frequently touched on the importance of financial transparency, making Fact’s victory a strong endorsement of accountability.Musab was elected as Welfare Officer with 5,488 votes, surpassing Cypher, who received 2,905 votes. For the role of Director of Socials, HADO emerged victorious with 5,324 votes, defeating Nayna, who managed 3,097 votes. His campaign emphasized creating more inclusive and diverse events across all faculties, leading one student from the Faculty of Science to humorously note, “HADO’s win means our parties will be lively again!”.Tommy claimed the title of Director of Sports with a commanding 5,314 votes, outpacing Malik, who received 1,750 votes, and DARE with 1,296 votes. His popularity within the athletic community had set expectations for his success, making this outcome widely anticipated.The election showcased robust voter participation, with over 8,500 valid votes cast across various positions. Most of the election process was peaceful, although a few delays and disputes arose during vote counting in faculties like Law and Social Sciences.
While some candidates expressed disappointment following their losses, the overall atmosphere on campus remained hopeful. The OAU electoral commission has pledged to investigate reports of double voting in some polling stations, particularly in the Education and Science faculties.
As the newly elected officers gear up for their transition and inauguration, students across the campus are optimistic about entering a new era marked by activism, transparency, and student-driven development.
