DUTSE, JIGAWA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa has arrested two individuals in connection with separate acts of vandalism at the Jigawa State Polytechnic.
The first suspect, Abubakar Muhammad, 22, a student at the institution, was apprehended on July 22. According to a statement from NSCDC Public Relations Officer Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, Muhammad is accused of vandalizing eight ceiling fans, which were donated by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), from various classrooms.
Muhammad reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming he sold the fans’ electric motors to Yahya Isma’il, a 20-year-old scrap dealer. Isma’il, who operates near the Dutse Central Mosque, has denied any involvement.
A second suspect, Fahad Nasir, also 22, was arrested the following day, July 23. He is being held for allegedly vandalizing aluminum roofing sheets from classrooms at the same polytechnic.
Both suspects are currently in custody as the investigation proceeds. The NSCDC has issued a strong warning, urging vandals to stop or face prosecution.
