The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University chapter (ASUU-PLASU), has strongly criticized the university administration’s decision to impose a palty amount as Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) without consulting the union.

In a recent development, the university administration unilaterally decided to introduce a new computation method for EAA, sparking outrage among academic staff. ASUU-PLASU vehemently opposes the move, demanding the reversal of the sessional computation method and payment of a justifiable amount recommended by the union.

The union asserts that the administration’s action undermines the collective bargaining process and disregards the welfare of academic staff. ASUU-PLASU is seeking payment of the outstanding 50% of the 2023/2024 Earned Academic Allowance, which remains unresolved.

By imposing EAA without negotiation, the university administration has strained relations with the union, potentially affecting the academic environment. ASUU-PLASU’s stance highlights the need for dialogue and cooperation between the administration and academic staff.

Key demands

1. Reversal of Sessional Computation Method: ASUU-PLASU demands the reversal of the new computation method, citing its adverse impact on academic staff.

2. Payment of Outstanding EAA: The union seeks payment of the outstanding 50% of the 2023/2024 Earned Academic Allowance.

Justifiable Amount: ASUU-PLASU recommends a justifiable amount for EAA, ensuring fair compensation for academic staff.

The ASUU-PLASU’s strong stance against the university administration’s unilateral decision underscores the importance of cooperation and dialogue in resolving disputes. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the administration will respond to the union’s demand
