FESSU National Senate Suspends National President

FESSU National Senate Suspends National President for Gross Misconduct and Negligence
FEDERATION OF EKITI STATE STUDENTS’ UNION (FESSU) NATIONAL HOUSE OF SENATE
NOTICE OF SUSPENSION
Subject: Suspension of the National President for Gross Misconduct, Negligence of Duty, and Bypassing Accountability Procedures
In accordance with the general disciplinary provisions of the FESSU National Constitution, the House of Senate hereby suspends the National President, in the person of ADEKUNLE BENJAMIN ONILEOWO, on the following grounds:
1. Gross Misconduct and Negligence of Duty:
As provided under Article 3, Section 9, Item 2 of the Constitution, “Any member of the NEC found guilty of gross misconduct or negligence of duty shall be appropriately sanctioned by the House of Senate.” The President has failed to present the requested documents and comprehensive financial details for the proper assessment of the NEC’s financial duties. The financial report eventually submitted contains significant omissions in crucial transactions, raising serious doubts regarding the financial integrity of this administration. Furthermore, in response to the Senate’s summons under Article 3, Section 7, Item 7—which empowers the House of Senate to summon any NEC member to defend its budget, finance, and activities—the President’s attendance was marred by his request to change the venue on unfounded health claims, with no supporting medical evidence provided.
2. Bypassing Accountability Procedures in the Formation of the Electoral Commission:
The President has announced the formation of an Electoral Commission aimed at concluding his administration without first providing full financial accountability to the House of Senate. This unilateral action contravenes the constitutional mandate that all major administrative transitions must follow a thorough review and defense of the union’s finances, as stipulated in Article 3, Section 7, Item 7. This act is a clear dereliction of duty and further underscores the negligence exhibited in fulfilling his responsibilities.
3. Failure to Comply with Summons Requirements:
While Article 3, Section 9, Item 1a states that “Any member of the NEC summoned three times by the House of Senate without response shall be suspended by the House of Senate,” it is noted that the President has been summoned on two occasions. However, his pattern of non-compliance—including the failure to produce the necessary documents and providing baseless excuses—coupled with his subsequent actions, further reinforces the justification for his suspension.
4. Neglect of Constitutional Duty to Checkmate the Cabinet:
Article 3, Section 7, Item 4 mandates that the leadership “shall checkmate the cabinet appropriately in making decisions.” The President’s recent actions, including the premature announcement of the Electoral Commission and avoidance of due financial accountability, represent a failure to engage properly in this constitutional duty.
After thorough review and in strict adherence to our constitutional mandates, the House of Senate, acting under Articles 3, Section 9 (Items 1a and 2) and Article 3, Section 7 (Items 4 and 7), has determined that the National President’s actions constitute gross misconduct and negligence of duty. This suspension is effective immediately and shall remain in force pending further review and final adjudication by the Senate.
All members of the union are hereby notified that this decision is final and binding until a full hearing is conducted in accordance with our constitutional and disciplinary protocols.
