EXPLANATIONS ON HOW TO FILL AN IT OR SIWES LOGBOOK
HOW TO WRITE A PERFECT IT OR SIWES LOGBOOK.
SIWES was established by ITF in 1973 to solve the problem of lack of adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates of tertiary institutions.
The Scheme exposes students to industry based skills necessary for a smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work. It affords students of tertiary institutions the opportunity of being familiarized and exposed to the needed experience in handling machinery and equipment which are usually not available in the educational institutions.
Participation in SIWES has become a necessary pre-condition for the award of Diploma and Degree certificates in specific disciplines in most institutions of higher learning in the country, in accordance with the education policy of government.
Operators – The ITF, the coordinating agencies (NUC, NCCE, NBTE), employers of labour and the institutions.
Funding – The Federal Government of Nigeria
Beneficiaries – Undergraduate students of the following: Agriculture, Engineering, Technology, Environmental, Science, Education, Medical Science and Pure and Applied Sciences.
Duration – Four months for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, and Six months for the Universities.
What is the SIWES Log Book?
The log book is more of a memo booklet that a SIWES student must be in possession of to easily record the daily experience and happening as he or she is on the SIWES programme. The Log book as well contains basic data about the student, and also the company or place the student must have been attached to inorder to carry out the SIWES programme.
Nevertheless students on SIWES industrial training always have difficulties in filling the appropriate data into the Log book, that is why i came up with this post to help out.
Below are explanations that clearly shows how to fill the Log book.
Note:- The Log book varies across institutions and school. i.e it is not the same in every school.

This is usually the the first page of your logbook. This page contains your full name (Name of student), your institution name(e.g university, college of education, polytechnic or any tetiarry institution where you are studying), the course of study(ie, the course you are studying e.g computer science), year of the course(ie you current level in school as an IT student usually a year before your final year e.g 300Level), the company/establishment attached to (ie the name of the company where you are doing your Industrial training e.g Electronics Development Institute (ELDI)), the name of your industry based SIWES cordinator (i.e the person your report to on your training, or the person attached to you to aid you on your SIWES programme), then finally your Registration/Matriculation number, with a copy of your recent passport attached.
