The Niger State Government has announced the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) in Lapai, following an alarming increase in security threats that have resulted in fatalities on campus. Governor Umaru Bago has sanctioned this shutdown, which will be effective immediately and will stay in place until further notice.
According to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, this action was deemed necessary due to the escalating insecurity surrounding the institution. The government is taking measures to restore peace and normalcy, and investigations into the incidents are currently in progress. Those identified as responsible will be held accountable under the law.
The statement emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all residents in Niger State.
