Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Four Teen Boys on Camping Trip in Wales

In a heartbreaking incident, four teenage boys from Shrewsbury, U.K., were found dead in an overturned car submerged in a river during their camping trip in Eryri National Park, known as Snowdonia. The victims, Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Fitchett, and Hugo Morris, aged 16 to 18, were reported missing when they failed to return home after setting out on Sunday morning.

Authorities, prompted by a tip from a member of the public, discovered the overturned Ford Fiesta about eight kilometers from Porthmadog. The vehicle had veered off a steep and narrow winding road, according to Owain Llewellyn, superintendent of North Wales Police. He described the incident as “tragic,” offering condolences to the families and friends of the young men.

Local councillor June Jones revealed that the car was spotted by a passing lorry driver from a higher vantage point. The tight-knit community in Shrewsbury is mourning the loss, with Rev. Charlotte Gompertz expressing the devastating impact on the community, where “everybody knows everybody.”

Harvey Owen’s mother, Crystal, shared her grief on Facebook, describing the situation as a “nightmare” she wishes to wake up from. Shrewsbury College, where the teens were students, extended condolences and thanked emergency services and volunteers for their assistance.

The tragic accident has left the community in shock, and support measures are in place for those affected. As investigations continue, the Shrewsbury College statement emphasizes the collective grief over the loss of the promising young lives.
