EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT: Kayode Ojo’s Supporters Attempted to Disrupt Peace in Otun-Ekiti — We Reported Them to the Police After Repeated Threats
I am a resident of Moba Local Government and I was present in Otun-Ekiti on Saturday when the so-called “peaceful meeting” organized by supporters of Engr. Kayode Ojo turned into an episode of tension and deliberate provocation.
Let the truth be told: what happened was not an attack from any group of people loyal to the Governor as falsely claimed. The tension started earlier in the day when one of their key organizers, Mr. Ogunkayode Moses and Obembe Taiwo AKA Aiyekooto from Osan-Ekiti, went around threatening community members, including myself and others, insisting that we must attend their political meeting or face consequences.
I personally overheard them say, and I quote:
“Anyone in Moba who refuses to stand with Kayode Ojo will soon have themselves to blame. We know those sitting on the fence, and we will deal with them.”
That statement was shocking to many of us. We could not ignore such reckless threats in a community known for peace. Rather than react emotionally or violently, we decided to act responsibly and went straight to the Otun Divisional Police Station to file a report. We made it clear that we would not take the law into our hands, but we also would not tolerate attempts to force political allegiance or destabilize our town.
The so-called “peaceful meeting” was anything but that. People were dragged into it against their will. Some of them were clearly uncomfortable, and many only showed up out of fear. Their aim was to create tension, provoke a reaction, and then run to the press with a false narrative.
We, the true people of Moba, know what happened. No supporter of Governor Oyebanji went to attack anyone. Rather, the peace we enjoy was threatened by those who came with a clear agenda to intimidate and dominate our community by force.
It is unfortunate that people like Ogunkayode Moses and Obembe Taiwo, who has enjoyed the goodwill of the people in the past, has reduced themselves to the role of a political enforcer. But we will not be provoked. We will continue to uphold peace and lawful conduct in Moba, no matter the intimidation.
The police have already been briefed. We trust they will investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that those trying to drag our peaceful communities into crisis are held accountable.
Enough of the lies. Moba deserves peace. And we will protect it.
