UNIZIK Reinstates Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu as Acting Vice-Chancellor
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has officially reinstated Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu as the Acting Vice-Chancellor. This decision follows the annulment of Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh’s appointment as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor, which was deemed improperly executed by the now-dissolved 10th Governing Council of the University.
In an intricate twist of events, the appointment of Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor has been officially annulled. This appointment, previously sanctioned by the now-defunct 10th Governing Council, has been declared invalid. The Federal Ministry of Education, through correspondence bearing Ref: FMEHE/CU/82/T308 and dated November 20, 2024, endorsed this verdict. Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, mni, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, authorized this resolution, reinstating Prof. Ikechebelu to helm the University’s administration.
Prof. Ikechebelu has been entrusted with the comprehensive oversight of institutional activities, with any issues requiring Council authorization now routed through the Honourable Minister of Education. This protocol will remain effective until Mr. President appoints a reconstituted Governing Council.
Moreover, the Honourable Minister has validated the return of Mr. Victor Ikechukwu Modebelu as the Acting Registrar. This decision followed the invalidation of the appointment of Bar. Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as substantive Registrar—a selection likewise deemed irregular.
The University community is earnestly encouraged to extend its unreserved cooperation to the reinstated leadership. As these pivotal figures navigate the complexities of academic and administrative stewardship, collective support will be instrumental in aligning the institution with its scholarly and organizational objectives.
