This second edition of the competition, organized by Boys Without Borders Nigeria, celebrates the 2025 International Day of the Boy-Child and aims to encourage critical thinking on gender-related issues.

Entries Open: 3 March 2025
Deadline: 31 March 2025


Essay Topic

“Challenging Harmful Stereotypes: Becoming Allies in the Fight for Equality.”

Participants are expected to present well-researched, original essays that explore ways men and boys can actively challenge harmful stereotypes and contribute to gender equality.


Prizes for Winners

First place: N70,000
Second place: N50,000
Third place: N30,000
Top 10 participants – Mentorship & other rewards


Eligibility & Guidelines

Who can apply?

  • Male undergraduate students in Nigerian universities.

Submission Requirements

  • Essays must be 800 to 1,000 words.
  • A photo ID must be submitted with the essay. If unavailable, an alternative document with a name, photo, and school name is required.
  • The entrant’s name and school must NOT appear in the document (this information will be collected separately through the submission form).
  • The essay must include a title and word count.
  • Plagiarized essays will be disqualified.
  • Entries must be submitted via the official submission link.

Additional Notes

  • The top 10 essays will be shortlisted, and selected participants will be invited to a conference.
  • The top 3 essays will receive cash prizes.
  • The top 5 entrants will receive consolation prizes.
  • Members of Boys Without Borders NG or its campus networks are NOT eligible to apply.
