Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State — In a disciplinary action that has sparked online debate, Babcock University has expelled a student, Oladipupo Siwajuola, over a string of serious misconduct allegations. This development comes shortly after a viral social media post by his mother, who declared him missing on May 3 and accused the institution of negligence.

Responding to the claims, the university issued a detailed statement on the circumstances that led to Oladipupo’s dismissal. According to Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Director of Marketing and Communications, the student left campus without clearance on April 28, disguising himself in a hoodie to exit through the university’s teaching hospital gate. He was later brought back by his father on May 15 and questioned by the school’s Security Services Department.

Tribune Nigeria reports that during the university’s investigation and subsequent disciplinary hearing, Oladipupo admitted to the following:

  • Purchasing fetish items from a herbalist worth nearly ₦100,000, allegedly for “Yahoo Plus” rituals

  • Selling drugs within the campus environment

  • Using another student’s National Identification Number to open a bank account

  • Selling his own mobile phone under false claims of parental consent

  • Taking out an online loan of ₦500,000 to fund gambling activities

“These actions are not only in violation of our student code of conduct but also deeply conflict with the values we uphold as a faith-based institution,” Dr. Suleiman stated.

The university emphasized its stance on student safety, moral integrity, and zero tolerance for criminal behaviour, announcing that Oladipupo’s expulsion takes immediate effect. However, he retains the right to appeal in accordance with the student handbook.

“We understand the emotional toll this may have on the family,” Suleiman added, “but our priority remains ensuring a safe, ethical environment for all.”

Babcock University concluded by reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, character development, and partnership with parents in shaping responsible students.
