- The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships aim to attract top doctoral students to Canadian universities, promoting research and higher education globally. These scholarships support students pursuing doctoral degrees in natural sciences, engineering, health, social sciences, and humanities research.
A doctoral program should include significant research, including a thesis, major project, assessment, intellectual journal, presentation, and scholarly demonstrations, with a standard expert review at the academy level. Joint graduate research programs, including clinically-oriented programs, can be obtained.
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) are awarded annually to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign nationals. The scholarship is valued at $50,000 annually for the duration of study. To apply, applicants must be nominated by a single Canadian institution affiliated with the Vanier CGS program, be pursuing their first doctoral degree, plan to start full-time doctoral studies in the summer semester or academic year following the announcement of results, have completed no more than 20 months of doctoral studies by May 1, 2023, and have not previously held a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC. Applicants must notify their respective institution’s faculty of graduate studies about their intention to apply for the Vanier CGS program and submit their applications using the ResearchNet application system. The deadline for nominating institutions is November 1, 2023.
